Salut d'Amour

So, this is actually a movie review, which is very rare to occur in my blog. Ain't good at writing a movie review, but I just feel like doing it because this movie have brought me a lot of emotions. Hah.

It so happened that yesterday night, while I planned to catch up with my long delayed drama marathon, I was randomly picking interesting videos to watch and this quite-some-time-ago movie has suddenly popped out in my mind. A movie which I planned to watch super long time ago and I have totally forgotten about this. Well, to be honest, the main attraction of this movie to me at the very first place is simply because of my ChanYeol, since it was his first movie I guess. Hahaha. Opps. But as a rational fan, the trailer did attracted my attention too. So, here is the movie that I would like to talk about.

Salut d'Amour / Jang-Soo Store. (2015)

This movie has many different movie titles, but I personally prefer the first one because Salut d'Amour in French is "Greeting of Love".
Ahhhh, such romance.. (Thanks to Mr.Google)

And why am I so into this movie and even trying to write a review about this?

The story line was so good that it gave me many surprises and plot twists, and brought me into tears in the end. (I'd admit that I'm a crybaby but I don't usually cry for dramas and movies though.)

The movie was about a romantic relationship between an elderly couple and the stories of their family and neighborhood. At the beginning of the movie. I thought the story was mainly about a grumpy and bad-tempered Grandpa meeting his neighbor, a warm and friendly Grandma and they started to date and have a cute romantic relationship together. The Boss of Jang Soo Store, where the Grandpa was working at, tried to get the approval and signature from the Grandpa because he was the last hold out for the redevelopment project and the Daughter of the Grandma seemed to disapprove the relationship of the two elderies. And as the story went on, it is shown that there is a special relationship between the Boss of the store and the Grandma, and I thought the Grandma was trying to scam Grandpa to get the signature from him. Such a plot twist of a romantic relationship.

And then it happened that the Grandma was suffering from serious illness and the Grandpa was showing symptoms of having hard time to remember things and people. They do not have much time together, They promised to visit the flower festival together but it so happened that the Grandma was very ill and had been admitted to the hospital. The Grandpa couldn't remember their promise until the event day, he went all the way, travelling by himself to the flower festival to look for Grandma without knowing her admission to the hospital. (The scenes of Grandpa was trying to search for Grandma just broke my heart man T.T)

Then the Boss came all the way to bring Grandpa to the hospital to visit Grandma who was very ill. And here comes another plot twist omg. It was soon reviewed that the Boss and Daughter were the children of the two. They weren't neighbors, they were a family instead! Poor Grandpa was suffering from Alzheimer's disease and he had forgotten everyone including his beloved wife, the Grandma. (Omg, I couldn't stop crying for the whole scene, I could relate so much when I thought of my granny. T.T) The family couldn't just give up on him even though he has forgotten everyone, that was why they chose to act like strangers to him to keep him safe. I had to rewind the beginning part of the movie to find the clues showing that they are family and every questions in mind had made senses now already.

That was really unexpected because it was totally different from my expectation when I was watching the trailer. It was not just a movie showing an elderly couple who wanted to find true love at their old ages, it was about the eternal love between the two. T.T They were deeply in love since young age and have a super sweet family together. T.T And they started their love story all over again even though one of them had forgotten the name of another.

The movie has really touched my heart a lot. The Eternal Love that wins all. The meaning behind Salut d'Amour.

"The True Love always remains, not in the brain, but in the heart. Even if one day I would have forgotten your name and the memories between us, I would fall for you all over again, just like the first time I met you."

If only this Eternal love ever exists in real life, I hope it would happen to me one day maybe. When I would get to meet someone that we would fall for each other again and again no matter what happens.

So, that's what I got and learnt from the movie. And btw ChanYeol was really cute in the movie I must say. It would be better if he had more scenes in the movie. This was the most random'est and the 2nd Korean movie I ever watched and I never expect myself to have such deep emotions towards this movie.

I guess this shall be the end of my movie review and all I could say is this movie definitely worth watching, at least for me. I know I'm really bad at giving summary for movies and dramas, especially when my friends asked me about what a drama or movie is about. So yeah, that's all for today.

Time to search for the OST. =)
